I’ve yet to see a comic of hers that didn’t make me feel uncomfortable in some way, that didn’t feel smug and gross in some way, whether she’s casually having her boyfriend call women d*kes , or making gay jokes, or talking about how very queer she is for going to strip clubs a lot. or something. That’s in any fucking number of them, I’m not weeding through this shit to find it. That’s how her Queer comic ends, if I recall correctly. Her boyfriend likes gawking at breasts too so good for him. And they lived happily queerly ever after. 

I’ve seen plenty of “but Queer is still a good comic” on this post.

but this specific comic, this just hits me in the gut, every time. I’m glad it was linked to rather than uploaded. I don’t want her speaking about the queer community for me, or writing for young queer people. I certainly didn’t need to hear any of this shit. 

I’m glad she’s got an apology up, I’m glad she’s willing to learn I guess. I don’t really understand her reasoning for leaving up the comic itself. Though I suppose there’s an argument for not trying to hide what she did. I don’t know, there are good and bad points to both option, but “leaving it up to keep the six year run of DAR! whole” isn’t exactly what I’d have opened with.

but really, how hard is “hey, telling someone you’ll stop objectifying them when they stop being hot isn’t okay.” You don’t need to be an expert in trans issues to see that. 

I’ve never liked her comics, each time they cycle around I get sicker and sicker of seeing them. This comic isn’t a surprise, it’s not so different from most of the series that isn’t navel gazing. 

Anyone remember that really gross one she did about race? I guess that one got taken down awhile ago. 

Oh god I remember that one. “I’m afraid of Black people! But I’m working on it so it’s ok!”

I dislike Erika Moen’s comics and I dislike just as much the tendency for her work to be held out as an offering to queer people by straight editors, comic artists, etc. There are a million queer comic artists out there writing on queer themes. Erika Moen is the absolute bottom of the barrel. We deserve better than someone who writes such awful, upsetting, racist, transphobic, misogynist stuff. Queers produce better content every day, but Erika Moen is the one who gets posted everywhere. That bothers me. It bothers me a lot.
